Neumag Saurer relies on SolidCAM+SolidWorks

SolidCAM in production
Saurer Textile is the world market leader for full-service solutions in textile machinery and constantly sets new benchmarks for an efficient textile production. The equipment and services include the entire range of yarn manufacturing (natural and synthetic fibers) and nonwovens production. Its daughter company Neumag Saurer is the industry`s first supplier for all major nonwoven processes. Neumag, headquartered in Neumuenster in Northern Germany, has been standing for more than 55 years for strict customer orientation and long lasting reliable equipment in the worldwide synthetic fiber and Nonwoven industry. Neumag is regarded as market and technology leader for complete turnkey lines for the production of BCF carpet yarns and synthetic staple fiber, providing turnkey airlaid, carding, and spunbound lines as well as innovative technological concepts for nonwoven products - all from one source.

The customized production lines require the manufacturing of a variety of precise and complex parts. The efficient machining of these parts is a core competence of Neumag Saurer, in which 220 of the 415 employees in Neumuenster are involved. The spectrum ranges from small parts with a weight of 50 grams up to large parts with a weight of 10 tons and dimensions 5 x 3 x 2 m³. In addition,  Neumag Saurer offers also manufacturing services to other companies: About 30% of its capacity is used to produce heavy parts for external clients, like wind wheels, motors, power generators, gearboxes…Some of the workpieces require up to 300 different machining operations. Production specialist Thorsten Nebbe: "Basicly, the NC programs contain our historically grown cutting knowhow. We meanwhile have an archive of nearly 40,000 tested and optimized NC programs.” A really impressive number, which needs a powerful and reliable CAD/CAM-system for the generation of the G-Code.

About five years ago, Neumag Saurer decided to introduce SolidWorks as 3D design system. Just at that time, Torsten Nebbe started his job as production specialist in the company. With 15 years experience in NC Programming, one of his first jobs was to select and introduce the appropriate CAM-system for Neumag Saurer. He stated: “We have investigated several CAM systems and finally decided to test SolidCAM in our production environment. These tests were so successful, that we finally ordered 3 seats of SolidCAM.” Meanwhile Neumag has installed seven seats of the combined solution „SolidWorks+SolidCAM”. Thorsten Nebbe: "One argument pro SolidCAM was of course the seamless integration in SolidWorks. But even more important for us were the CAM functionalities, the approach to CNC programming and the postprocessing capabilites”.
