Subject: AW: iMachining on Inconel 718
Today I visited Hoffmann Group Technology Center in Braunschweig, Germany.
Hoffmann has a customer from the petroleum industry who very often needs to mill Inconel.
Currently the customer uses speeds from 20 up to 40 mm/min.
I programed 3 simple pockets with different levels and different tools.
The machine is a Hurco VMX30T. with Winmax and – 12000 U/min – 30000 mm/min and 15KW.
In all operations we used pre-drilling.
The first part was milled with iMachining Level 3 – depth 15 mm – Tool with D12, 4 Flutes - VC was by 98 mm/min – good.
Then the second part – iMachining level 4 – depth 24 mm – Tool - D12 – 5 Flutes (special tool for titanium) – VC was 120 mm/min – sound was very nice!!
For the last part we milled 2 pockets – level 5 and level 6 – Tool - D12 – 6 Flutes – name of the tool is Diabolo – VC was 130 and 150 mm/min
People from Hoffman were very enthusiastic about the results – now they will present the results to the customer.
Mit besten Grüßen
