February 6, 2020 - SolidCAM today announced the release of the latest version of their flagship CAM software – SolidCAM 2020.  This new release brings major enhancements to many CAM modules available inside SolidCAM, as well as general improvements that provide an even greater ease-of-use for the end user.

SolidCAM 2020 provides a host of general improvements such as ‘Full Position Control’ of part and fixture – which allows the user to set the absolute value, as is on the machine, for part and fixture separately.  The ‘Drag & Drop’ feature now includes easier navigation by way of new toggle switch icons, and a cleaner Operation Templates interface that makes it easier to navigate to your desired templates. Further improvements include a new Temporary Directory cleanup utility that can be toggled on/off in the CAM settings and the new Network PRZ Multi-User Checking feature that checks to see if the PRZ file you’re working on is currently open by another network user system.

The SolidCAM 2.5D Milling module gets a boost with many enhancements. The Hole Wizard Process now includes Drag to Surface which finds all holes perpendicular to the surface that have been created with the Wizard and automatically adds operations for them, as well as the new Full Synchronization feature that automatically changes the tools and updates the operations when ahole type or size is changed.  The Face milling operation now provides the option of Floor Finish Only. The 2.5D Pocket Operation has been updated to provide Floor Finish Only or  Wall and Floor FinishOnly as well as a new Open Edge Negative Offset feature that now supports negative offset values on open edges on Modify Geometry, which is very helpful when trying to avoid objects near the open edge.

SolidCAM’s patented iMachining gets new features including 3D Positioning in iMachining 2D which means you can now perform 3D in-pocket positioning, as you can do in iMachining 3D. This is made possible by using the Stock model that is dynamically updated by each cutting move. Smart positioning greatly reduces retracts and further optimizes iMachining 2D tool path. Other enhancements include User-defined Arc Fitting Tolerance and User-defined Max Cutting Angle Step-up in iMachining 3D.

The HSM/HSR module in SolidCAM 2020 introduces the new Turbo HSR and 3-Axis Undercut Milling operations.  Turbo HSR provides a new Roughing Tool Path engine with true 64-bit, Multicore support and Multi-Surface Offset Capability along with numerous other enhancements.  Turbo HSM offers now more accurate sharp corner motion by adding a finer radius to prevent part wall damage.  The new 3-Axis Undercut Milling operation works directly on the model to provide Gouge free toolpaths as well as automatic Collision control for shanks & holders, and offers support for Slot Mills & Lollipop Cutters.

SolidCAM’s HSS and Simultaneous 5-Axis modules have been enhanced, including a new Calculation Progress Bar that is visible in all operations. Multiple boundaries are now supported in a single operation; Toolpath Extension now extends the toolpth for each region, and in the Automatic Clearance Plane, the direction, type & value are set automatically based on part geometry and Toolpath type.

Additionally, in SolidCAM’s Screw Machining operation, the toolpath calculation has been optimized and now provides calculation at least 10 times faster than before.  Also, Screw Machining now offers Automatic Ramping and Lead-In & Lead-Out definition for Finishing operations.

SolidCAM’s new Simulation provides 2 new modes including Performance Mode, which plays the simulation at incremental speeds based on the playback speed slider, and Machining Time Mode that plays the simulation according to the actual time spent running on the machine.  The Simulator has also added Tooltips that are displayed when hovering the mouse over interface features and provide detailed information along every segment of the tool path.
