Subject:Special iMachining Story – great success at Carl Zeiss SMT

Hi Emil,

This week we could closed a deal with the very famous company <link http: www.zeiss.com semiconductor-manufacturing-technology en_de home.html _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Carl Zeiss SMT.

Carl Zeiss is world market leader in various areas, including optical industry, medicine technology and so on.

This Deal took us 2 years to close! It is a special story with a special central statement.

Two years ago we’ve been there to introduce iMachining and we did a miracle milling!

At this time, the part was running more than 10 h, because it was a very hard material and it took a lot of tools to finish the part.

We optimized the program with SolidCAM iMachining and went to the machine.

iMachining raced through this part and finished it with two tools in  45 minutes (92.5% saving in cycle time and major saving in tool life)!

All Carl Zeiss employees stood in front of the machine completely amazed and could not believe it.

The manager asked us for a quotation and we began to negotiate.

After two weeks he said to me: SolidCAM iMachining is a fantastic software, but the part that we cut, is just ONE sub-part of a big group of parts (which are either manually programmed on the controller or with their existing CAM software) and the time-savings for this part makes no real big difference, as the complete group of parts cost more than several hundred thousand Euros!

So we thought, this prospect was out of reach for us.

Two years later, the manager called me, and said that they have changed their parts or their method of production – they have now other parts and wished to see us again.

So we went there and realized that several parts are good for iMachining and we cut again on the machine.

This time, the time-savings were also great, though not as dramatic as 2 years ago, but now the manager was deeply convinced to change his current CAM software.

Carl Zeiss SMT ordered their first 2 SolidCAM network licenses, one up to sim 5-axis and both with iMachining 2D and 3D, our match winner.

This is just the start – there is potential for many more SolidCAM seats to replace their current CAM software.

So the moral of this story is:

Once you see iMachining in action, it will stay in mind forever!

Best regards,

Dirk Klinge
